LISTEN IN III:

LISTEN IN is our monthly spotlight on new music.
This week: Pongo, Gaidaa and Off The Meds.

Pongo

Hailing from Angola, Pongo’s family moved to Portugal as a young girl where she grew up in Lisbon. You might already know her as the voice behind infectious 2008 tune ‘Wegue Wegue’ by Portuguese group Buraka Som Sistema (tip: listen with proper speakers or headphones). Now in 2020, Pongo “embodies the renewal of Kuduro” a genre influenced by carnival music like Soca combined with techno and accordion playing found in Europe at the time. Today she mixes “her African, Langan & Zairian roots with EDM, bass music, dancehall & melodic pop,” for a style that is uniquely her own. Listen to her sound on her latest EP ‘UWA’.

Off The Meds

Meet the self-proclaimed ‘techno boyband’ as they state in Fader mag. The South African/Swedish band is gearing up for the release of their self-titled debut album, kicking off with chill track ‘Karlaplan’. Look out for the album on November 20th.

Gaidaa

Get lost in the latest offering from Sudanese/Netherlands artist — Gaidaa. Overture is a 26 mins and 45 secs treat of silky smooth RnB. Finessed with laidback acoustic guitars and sublime melodies and basslines which Gaidaa’s vocals glide over with ease. We look forward to the follow up to this prelude to Gaidaa.
