MEET: EGO ELLA MAY
Our 'MEET' series intro's you to artists you need on your radar. This week: EGO ELLA MAY.
Where to start? From the vocals to the melody to the basslines to the lyrics, it’s honestly a pleasure to listen to Ego Ella May get into it on her debut album: ‘Honey for Wounds’.
From start to finish the artist takes you on a journey through what appears to be her diary — tackling topics that appear both personal and relatable at the same time. The thing about reviews is you can do verbal cartwheels trying to regale how amazing something is, but the beauty of music is always in the listening. We could write about how the second track, ‘A table for one', is a dreamy mix of jazz and RnB — and that when the drums pick up ‘vibey’ is not the word, or the fact that the South London artist is managing to carve her own lane with a sound that harnesses poignant lyrics juxtaposed against a dreamy mix of Jazz, RnB, Trip hop and Neo-soul and so on and on. Just. Listen.
Ego Ella May’s album is available now to buy and stream.
